Wave Reader 1.2: Swipe Gestures, Liquid Glass & Dark Mode

Wave Reader 1.2 is live in the App Store. This is the biggest update since launch, and it touches almost every part of the app. Here's what's new.

Swipe Gestures

Navigation in Wave Reader now feels completely natural. Swipe right to mark an article as read, swipe left to save it for later. In the article view, swipe to jump to the next or previous article without going back to the feed list.

These gestures were the most requested feature from beta testers, and I spent extra time making sure they feel smooth and responsive — with the right amount of haptic feedback.

iOS 26 Liquid Glass Design

Wave Reader 1.2 embraces the new iOS 26 Liquid Glass design language. The navigation bar, tab bar, and sheet presentations all use the new translucent materials that adapt to the content behind them.

The result is an app that feels deeply native — like it belongs on your device. Every surface has depth, every transition feels fluid.

Feed Sorting

You can now sort your feeds the way you want. Sort by newest first, oldest first, or by source. The sort preference is remembered per folder, so your news feeds can show latest-first while your blog subscriptions stay in a different order.

Redesigned Article View

The reading experience got a complete overhaul. The new article view features better typography, improved image handling, and smarter content extraction that strips away clutter from the source while keeping the content intact.

Links, code blocks, and embedded media are now rendered cleanly with consistent spacing. Reading long articles finally feels comfortable.

Real Light & Dark Mode

Wave Reader now has a proper light and dark mode — not just a system toggle, but a carefully crafted appearance for each mode. Light mode is bright and airy with subtle gray backgrounds. Dark mode uses true blacks with warm accents that are easy on the eyes.

You can set it to follow your system preference or lock it to your preferred mode. Both themes were designed from scratch to ensure readability and visual consistency.

What's Next

I'm already working on the next update with widget support and improved feed discovery. If you haven't tried Wave Reader yet, it's free on the App Store.
